What changes, depending on who you are

The green is the same green. What differs is how it gets specified, when it can be installed and who signs for it.

College golf programs

Coaches, athletic directors, facilities staff and donors

  • Any room on campus can become a practice room: a boiler room at Rochester, racquetball courts at Binghamton and Marshall, a field house mezzanine at Saginaw Valley State.
  • Projects have run from $2,000 to over $100,000. Portable and roll-up greens share a gym with other teams, as Dayton's 15 × 60 ft roll-up green does.
  • A custom green is cut to a scaled drawing of your room, and the drawing is what you get. Tell us the dates the space cannot be shut.
  • College programs get facility pricing, and institutions can buy on a quote with a purchase order.

Indoor golf franchises and multi-site groups

Groups opening more than one venue to one specification

  • Standard models come in fixed sizes with every dimension published, so a specification can name a model rather than describe one.
  • A custom green is drawn before it is built, and the drawing is what you get.
  • Replacement turf is cut for the model you own and sold on its own, so a worn surface does not mean a new green.

Independent indoor golf venues

One room, a green, bays and a bar

  • Golf Garage in Oregon has a putting green and a row of simulator bays, both shown above.
  • Simulator turf and hitting mats are sold beside the greens, so the hitting surface and the putting surface come from one place.
  • A custom shape is cut around what is already in the room: bays, columns, doors and anything else fixed in the way.

Clubs, courses and amenity spaces

Clubhouses, lobbies, offices and member fitness rooms

  • Greens are already installed in offices and amenity spaces: Avaya in Durham and the Capitol Center in Columbia are both above.
  • Freight is arranged by phone with a delivery window, and it takes two people to bring a green in.
  • Assembly runs a day for most custom greens.
